Why & How

A safe, healthy, and just world where all life on earth thrives.

To help reverse global warming as soon as possible by inspiring and empowering people around the world to make the places they live and work climate positive.

The climate crisis is the biggest, most imminent threat we face today.

As a society, we are currently on track for a global catastrophe. At this point, it’s not a question of if humanity will face unbelievable suffering, destruction, and death at the hands of our climate, but rather, how much?

We are not doing nearly enough to address the climate crisis right now. We do not have our priorities straight. We need change.

Eliminating greenhouse gas emissions and drawing down the surplus that already exists should be society’s number one priority because that is how we can mitigate climate change. It is the best way to maximize our safety and wellbeing for both today and tomorrow.

In other words, we must become sustainable.

How quickly we are able to do this matters a lot.

The Crowdsourcing Sustainability Community

Crowdsourcing Sustainability exists to fight climate change.

Everything we do originates from the following two intentions:

1. Reduce greenhouse gas emissions as quickly as possible.

2. Help others and contribute to the community in positive ways.

We are an online community where people from all over the world come together to learn, share, collaborate, and empower each other to help lead the sustainability movement. Climate change is bigger than any of us, so it makes sense that many of us must come together to solve it.

We can and will beat climate change, but only if everyday people like you and me are active in the fight. If this resonates with you, this is your place. We are your people.

How Crowdsourcing Sustainability works

Let’s start by defining the two basic concepts:

Crowdsourcing: When people from all over come together to support a common cause. Each person contributes in his or her own way to help bring the shared vision to life. Collectively, the community of individuals creates something that none of them could have done on their own – something that wouldn’t have happened without each of their individual efforts.

Sustainability: Our ability as people to not only survive as we step into the future but to continually flourish over time.

In other words, crowdsourcing is how we bring our shared vision of sustainability to life. We do this through our contributions to empower one another, building on each other’s ideas to reduce GHG emissions, and by championing sustainability in our daily lives so that it spreads to others.

Bobby Kennedy captured how powerful crowdsourcing is as a mechanism to achieve social change in his “Ripple of Hope” speech against South Africa’s apartheid.

Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.”

Change starts with individuals. It starts with you. It starts with us. What we do every day truly matters. As more people begin to recognize this and act on it, we will begin to crowdsource our way to a sustainable society, overcome the worst of climate change, and build the future we desire.

How to get started

1. Familiarize yourself with the most critical parts of climate change.

2. Once literate with the problem, figure out one thing you can do to start effectively reducing emissions. Then do it.

3. Connect with other people in the community, ask questions, and get involved however you’d like to!
